| DESTROYED: The badger sett |
POLICE are appealing for information and witnesses after a mature badger sett in Albury was destroyed.
The badger sett in Alburyend Wood was destroyed in the last couple of months. It is believed offender(s) have done this by digging out the entrances (around 24 in this case) to cave them in, killing any animals inside. It is also possible that offender(s) could have used some form of low explosive which are regularly used by farmers as a form of pest control.
PC Paul Scott from Buntingford police station said: "We are urging anybody who remembers anything suspicious in this area over the last few months to call us. Any information, however insignificant, could help with our investigation.
"This is a disgusting crime and we are working hard to identify the offenders. If you have any information please call us on 0845 33 00 222."
Sergeant Jamie Bartlett, wildlife crime co-ordinator for Herts Police, said: "We are working closely with a number of organisations including the Badger Group, Natural England and the local ecological company to investigate this crime and to gather as much evidence as possible.
"We have a very good working relationship with the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) who have a designated wildlife crime lawyer and we will be working together to ensure that offenders are brought to justice.
