| Jean Ralph’s course is a growing success |
Organic food fans will have another chance to learn about growing their own salads.
A two-hour introductory course last month about growing fruit and vegetables was such a success that further courses have now been lined up.
The next "Grow Your Own" session will be on March 22 at the Greenfields Children's Centre in Hurst Drive, Waltham Cross.
Course leader Jean Ralph said: "The course went really well. We were a good mix of complete beginners, some that had tried their hand at a few crops already and even two young women who have recently taken on a half-plot allotment
"We looked at ways of dealing with pests like slugs and greenfly without using chemical sprays or pellets and also ways to keep your family supplied with lettuce and other salad veg throughout the summer months which resulted in one of the group rushing straight out to buy planters for her rocket and radish!"
This course teaches people about sowing, planting out, after care, composting and basic companion planting (where you plant vegetables alongside flowers to help with pollination and insect control).
Places cost £5. To book call Jean on 01992 301559. Spaces are limited so early booking is recommended.
